Council initiatives

The initiative is submitted to the chairman of the council. The municipal government sends the initiative to the authority whose field of activity the matter concerns for preparation. The council may decide that a referral discussion will be held on the preparation of the matter referred to in the initiative.

The municipal government must submit a list of initiatives taken by the councillors to the council by the end of March each year. At the same time, it must state what measures have been taken as a result of them. The council can state which initiatives have been completed. Below are the initiatives taken by Ii municipal councilors and council groups starting in 2022.

2025

• Protection of municipally owned land on the Ii church island, Teijo Liedes (27.1.)
• Council initiative of all council groups in the municipal council: Review of the facilities of the competition field as the number of students changes (24.2.2025)
• Launch of the Village Assistant initiative of the non-aligned council group (24.3.2025)
• The council initiative of the Iin City Council Group is to develop VT4 and its environment to make it more pleasant, together with the ELY Centre and property owners (24.3.2025)
• Iin Left Alliance council group: Planning and implementation of the market area in the central business district of Kuivaniemi (2.6.2025)

2024

• Child-friendly municipality model (12.2.)
• Investigating the application for national park status for the Litokaira mire conservation area together with the municipality of Ranua and the city of Pudasjärvi (13.5.)
• Ii municipality must continue to provide free secondary education (13.5.)
• To limit the use of mobile phones in schools (3.6.)

• Development of the Siltakahvila area in Jakkukylä (23.9.)

• Follow-up initiative to the 2021 groundwater protection plan. In the southern Ii area, the overall situation of planned and already implemented activities, such as wind farms, soil permits, drainage ditches and sand extraction sites, in the vicinity of Ii's vital and essential groundwater areas and water pumping stations must be investigated and mapped (23.9.)
