In the municipality of Ii, natural resources are consumed within the limits of the earth's carrying capacity. The residents of the municipality are involved in an understandable way. Here are examples of our actions to avoid overconsumption.

Schools and kindergartens save heat, electricity and water

All daycare centers and schools in the municipality of Ii are participating in energy monitoring, which monitors heating, electricity and water consumption on a monthly basis and implements energy efficiency measures together with the students. The idea is to teach and learn about sustainable development.

According to the 50/50 scheme, the municipality returns half of the financial savings that the school and daycare center may make through their energy savings. The students themselves can decide how to use the savings. The savings have been used to purchase, among other things, break time and sports equipment for the entire school.

During the monitoring period 1/2021-7/2022, Ii's schools and daycare centers saved a total of 46,141.10 euros, of which the municipality returned 20,591.29 euros.

The local brand is a promise of sustainable business operations.

The companies with the Iiläiset Paikallista label have pledged to utilize resources in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and reduce their carbon dioxide emissions. There are already about 50 companies involved.

The Paikallista collaboration includes the Iin Entrepreneurs Association, the Kuivaniemen Entrepreneurs Association and Micropolis Oy, which is responsible for developing the municipality's businesses.

Examples of citizen participation

With the help of energy pumps, visited Ii associations and organizations. Energy Porinos has provided information and guidance on issues related to the circular economy and energy efficiency during quizzes, among other things. Joint procurements open to all have been organized for, among other things, solar power plants, composters and air-to-air heat pumps. In addition, Ii Community College offers courses related to consumption and material cycles to local residents, and recycled materials are utilized in teaching.
